5 Things @TCUSchieffer: A Schieffer Celebration

Join the Bob Schieffer College of Communication as it celebrates 10 years as a named college with a week of events beginning Nov. 6. The events begin with the history of communication education at TCU and finish with an introduction to the future of communication research.

#1: Celebrating 150 Years of Empowering Voices: Digital Timeline Debut

Check out Schieffer College social channels Monday, Nov. 6, to see the debut of a digital timeline of communication education at TCU. Tracing the Schieffer College to the founding of TCU in 1873, the timeline extends from its early days as The College of Oratory to the college’s 2013 naming for alumnus Bob Schieffer ‘59.

#2: Schieffer Symposium & Birthday Party

At 6 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Van Cliburn Concert Hall, the college hosts an encore of the ever-popular Schieffer Symposium. Bob Schieffer will interview a panel of national journalists about the state of journalism today. Afterward, a birthday party on the Creative Commons will follow and offer a special Schieffer birthday gift to all guests. Tickets are free but required for entry.

#3: Schieffer: Then & Now

Join Bob Schieffer and Elizabeth Campbell ’18 from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 8 in Moudy South 320 as they discuss differences in their CBS News careers. Schieffer’s career included moderating live presidential debates, interviewing every living president since Richard M. Nixon and hosting “Face the Nation” for 23 years. Campbell’s work as a producer recently sent her to Australia for the Women’s World Cup, to Hawaii for wildfire coverage, to Detroit for the auto workers’ strike, and to Georgia for former President Jimmy Carter’s 99th birthday. A conversation moderated by Dean Kristie Bunton will ask Schieffer and Campbell what ethical standards persist for journalists from then to now.

#4: Schieffer Selfies

From 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 9 in the Moudy South Lobby, students may introduce themselves to college namesake and alumnus Bob Schieffer. In between taking selfies with Schieffer, treats and a commemorative giveaway will be provided, too.

#5: Schieffer Media Insights Lab Open House

Join the college for an open house in its new Schieffer Media Insights Lab from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 10 in Moudy South 165. Guests are invited to explore the lab, where students and faculty learn to use high-end software tools to track trends and improve digital communication messages and campaigns.
