Health Communication and Media minor

In our Health Communication and Media minor,  learn theory, research and practice of health communication.

Recent TCU graduates with this minor have gone on to careers in strategic communication firms that specialize in health clients, as internal communication professionals for health organizations or into masters programs in public health. Other career areas include sports teams, non-profit groups, health organizations, government agencies and many more.

The interdisciplinary courses include:

HCOM 10313 Foundations of Health Communication: This class aims to provide you with an overview of the field of health communication and enhance your understanding about it. Specifically, you will learn most studied major topical areas in healthcare and health communication,, theories and methods used to guide health communication research and intervention, and design and evaluations of health campaigns.

HCOM 20303 Health, Communication & Media: A beginning look at issues and opportunities in the areas of health, communication and media. This class is designed to help students examine social and media forces of health communication that impact diverse groups. Topics will include health promotion campaigns, media health edutainment, interpersonal health communication and media advocacy and outreach.

HCOM 20313 Interpersonal Health Communication: The quality of relational communication is fundamentally tied to human health. This course aims to better understand how interpersonal communication affects people’s physiological well-being by studying the health outcomes associated with relational processes like emotional expression, disclosure, affection, and conflict.
