To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its naming, the Bob Schieffer College of Communication hosts an encore of the ever-popular Schieffer Symposium at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the Van Cliburn Concert Hall.
Bob Schieffer ’59 will moderate a conversation with a panel of national journalists about the climate for news today. The symposium will be followed by a Schieffer College birthday party on the Creative Commons in honor of the Nov. 8, 2013, naming of the college.
The symposium and festivities are free, but reservations are required and can be made at tcu.edu/schieffer10.
Between 2005 and 2015, the Schieffer Symposium hosted 39 renowned panelists such as Tom Brokaw, Gayle King, Norah O’Donnell, Jane Pauley, Jake Tapper and Bob Woodward. The symposia attracted more than 10,000 attendees to hear panelists discuss the state of journalism and trending topics.
The Symposium ended when Schieffer retired after 23 years as moderator of “Face the Nation” in 2015. Since then, he has been on campus for a variety of activities, including an interview celebrating TCU’s 150th year.
“There is no better way to celebrate our anniversary than with our namesake, whose symposium series remains one of the most popular programs in our history as a college,” Dean Kristie Bunton said. “We’re proud to celebrate our birthday and to be named for Bob Schieffer because he exemplifies the persistence, integrity and civility that we want all of our Schieffer students to embody as they embark on careers as professional communicators.”
