Thompson, a sophomore strategic communication major from Santa Clarita, California, transferred to TCU this fall from San Diego State University.

“I’ve always wanted to go to TCU ever since I visited the campus my freshman year of high school,” she said. “I ended up going to San Diego State my freshman year because it was closer to home and less expensive, but after a year I decided to transfer because it wasn’t the best fit and because TCU was still where I wanted to be!”

During her time in Fort Worth, Thompson plans to take advantage of the resources and opportunities within the strategic communication department.

“I’ve already gotten to know some of my professors and I can’t wait to get to know the rest throughout the years,” she said. “I’m also going to apply to ROXO next year when I am eligible too, which I’m very excited about.”

Thompson said everything she is learning in her classes is applicable to running her YouTube channel.

“It’s really neat because I’ve already gotten the opportunity to work with a few brands on my YouTube channel, and now I am getting to learn about the back side of the entire process in both my PR and advertising classes,” she said.

One brand Thompson recently worked with for a back-to-school campaign was Bed Bath & Beyond.

“I did a video where I filmed myself going around the store adding things to my cart for my dorm room here,” she said. “It was such a cool collaboration and I was so excited when they reached out.”

In the future, Thompson plans on working in marketing for a beauty/lifestyle company.

“Now that I’m learning about all of the different job opportunities in the field, that’s definitely still the goal,” she said. “I’m hoping that through internships and job shadowing I’ll get a better idea of what I’ll want to do one day.”
