Student Places Second in National Poster Contest

Jessica received recognition for her poster, titled “Brothers Don’t Harm Brothers,” and a $100 cash award.

“I chose the brothers theme for the poster because that’s what fraternities are all about — brotherhood. New members of a fraternity (pledges) should feel comfortable and safe and welcomed while initiating. No one should get hurt or feel embarrassed, especially when what they’re trying to do is make friends and feel like a part of something,” Jessica said.

Spencer said she was surprised and excited when she learned she placed second in the contest. She said this is the first time she has won a national award and she is grateful that Broc Sears, her design professor, encouraged her to apply.
