Major: Strategic Communication
Minor: Journalism
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
Dream Job: Fashion Magazine Editor

Alejandra Serna is a creative person at heart and has many dreams she would love to accomplish within her life. Growing up, she lived in the same house, attended the same school and knew the same people her entire life, so leaving home to come to Texas Christian University was a huge step for her.

Serna knew she wanted to stay in Texas for a little bit longer, so she looked into many Texas colleges and liked most of them, but once it was time for her to start campus visits, her decision started to become clear. “As soon as I stepped foot on the campus, I knew it was the place for me,” she said. “I just got the instant feeling of comfort and safety that I didn’t experience with the other campuses I visited.” TCU gave her the chance to grow and expand her experience in the world.

Serna caught a little of this feeling when she got the chance to study abroad with TCU in Florence, Italy, for a semester. She felt it benefited her greatly because she got the chance to experience international classes and grow as an individual. It was one of her best experiences at TCU and Serna says she is blessed and thankful she had the option to study internationally with her fellow strategic communication students.

Serna didn’t start off being a strategic communication major. Instead, she came to TCU with the intention to study journalism because she loves to write. After a while, she heard from fellow students about the strategic communication degree and it all made sense to her. She still loves journalism, but public relations was an industry that always intrigued her. And a strategic communication degree gave her the opportunity to broaden her career path, and still have the option to write from time to time.

Serna loves writing so much that it is her favorite hobby and activity“Writing really helps me process all my emotions and I love telling stories,” she said. She has been collaborating on a book with her best friend who she has known since the age of three and also happened to go to TCU with her. It will be a satire that highlights their college  experience. The title is still in the works, but she and her friend hope to have it finished soonThe book will showcase the common college experiences that people have faced and share how everyone handled it. Bringing together her experience with her strategic communication major and journalism minor has been a great asset while writing her book, and she is excited for what else she can accomplish in the future.

Serna is working as a social media coordinator at LComm Marketing and Public Relations in Fort Worth.
