Faculty Positions in Digital Strategic Communication

Two tenure-track positions in digital strategic communication

The Department of Strategic Communication is seeking two new tenure-track faculty members to start in fall 2020, as part of a cluster of faculty to join others who are teaching and conducting research in digital strategic communication. (In addition to these two positions, the department will also be hiring a new instructor with digital competencies for fall 2020. That position will be advertised in spring 2020.)

Position 1: Assistant Professor

The Department of Strategic Communication in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of digital strategic communication to begin in the 2020-21 academic year. We seek candidates with expertise in advertising as well as digital media planning, digital analytics, and social media management.

Applicants should be able to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in media/channel planning, new media, digital analytics, campaigns, social media planning, other required courses in the major, and have an interest in teaching/creating new electives. Evidence of a strong teaching record, professional advertising or public relations experience, and digital analytics proficiency (e.g., digital analytics/marketing certificate) is preferred. Candidates must have a Ph.D. (ABD considered if degree completed before fall 2020) in a relevant field (e.g., advertising, public relations, strategic communication, communication, marketing, psychology). Candidates should also show evidence of research productivity or promise. Possible areas of research could include (but are not limited to) digital advertising and strategic communication, online consumer and audience behavior, user experience (UX), virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) technology, big data and advertising, or mobile and location-based advertising.

Position 2: Assistant or Associate Professor

The Department of Strategic Communication also invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in the area of digital public relations and/or digital advertising to begin in the 2020-21 academic year. We seek candidates with demonstrated professional and academic experience, including published research, in any of the following areas: interactive, digital, and social media strategies, tactics, and management for advertising and public relations; digital analytics and measurement for web content and social media; content marketing, including video, in digital spaces; digital channel/media planning; or related aspects of integrated digital communication.

Applicants should have evidence of successful teaching at the university level and two years of industry experience, with an ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in digital-focused strategic communication. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., digital media, advertising, public relations, strategic communication, communication, marketing, psychology), along with professional experience using these competencies in the marketplace. An ABD would be considered (at the assistant level, if degree completed before fall 2020). Candidates seeking an appointment to associate professor are expected to have experience and qualifications commensurate with that position, such as having earned tenure at another university with at least five years of full-time teaching experience.

Opportunities to teach in interdisciplinary programs in health communication, comparative race and ethnic studies, women and gender studies, and undergraduate honors may be available to successful candidates.

The Bob Schieffer College of Communication
The college, which is named for TCU alumnus and longtime CBS network TV correspondent Bob Schieffer, is the academic home for about 1,200 undergraduate students majoring in four departments: Communication Studies; Film, Television and Digital Media; Journalism; and Strategic Communication. More than 30 graduate students pursue master’s degrees in Strategic Communication and Communication Studies, and about 55 full-time and 25 part-time faculty teach in the college.
