SCHIEFFER SYMPOSIUM
AND CELEBRATION
Thank you to everyone who joined us Nov. 7!
Schieffer Symposium and Celebration: 10 years as a named college
Join us in celebrating 10 years as the Bob Schieffer College of Communication. We are honored to bear the name of legendary journalist Bob Schieffer ’59, a first-generation college student who reported from Vietnam, covered the White House and Congress, hosted “Face the Nation” for 23 years, and moderated three televised presidential debates.
On Nov. 7, Bob Schieffer returns to campus to moderate the Schieffer Symposium, which ended in 2015 after an 11-year run. These popular programs brought media heavyweights to TCU to discuss the state of journalism and current events. Previous guests included Gayle King, Bob Woodward, Norah O’Donnell, Tom Brokaw and Jake Tapper.

The symposium begins at 6 p.m. in the Van Cliburn Concert Hall, near the Schieffer College’s home in Moudy South. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are free, but required. Seating is general admission. Please save your ticket to your phone for admission. TCU’s clear bag policy applies.
Mix and mingle afterward on the Creative Commons where we’ll serve treats and anniversary treasures.

A week of celebratory events
We have a whole week of events planned, beginning Nov. 6 with the history of communication education at TCU and finishing with an introduction to the future of communication research.
Monday: 150 Years of Schieffer College
We’ll debut a digital timeline of communication education at TCU. Tracing the Schieffer College to the founding of TCU in 1873, the timeline extends from its early days as The College of Oratory to the college’s 2013 naming for alumnus Bob Schieffer ‘59.
Tuesday: Schieffer Symposium & Birthday Party
Bob Schieffer will interview a panel of national journalists about the state of journalism today at Schieffer Symposium. A birthday party follows on the Creative Commons with a special Schieffer birthday gift to all guests.
Wednesday: Schieffer: Then & Now
Dean Kristie Bunton moderates a discussion between Bob Schieffer and Elizabeth Campbell ’18 about the differences in their CBS News careers. Schieffer’s career included moderating live presidential debates, interviewing every living president since Richard M. Nixon and hosting “Face the Nation” for 23 years. Campbell’s work as a producer recently sent her to Australia for the Women’s World Cup, to Hawaii for wildfire coverage, to Detroit for the auto workers’ strike, and to Georgia for former President Jimmy Carter’s 99th birthday. Join us from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 8 in Moudy South 320.
Thursday: Schieffer Selfies
From 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 9 in the Moudy South Lobby,
Meet and grab a selfie with college namesake and alumnus Bob Schieffer. Treats and a commemorative giveaway will be provided, too.
