Class of 2021: Meet Marissa Stacy

Name: Marissa Stacy
Major: Journalism
Hometown: Zionsville, Indiana

Why did you choose Texas Christian University?
I loved TCU since the minute I stepped on campus. I knew I wanted to go out of state and TCU felt the most like home.

How did you decide the journalism major was right for you?
I liked that it was small, so you would really get to know all the professors and students in the program you chose. TCU feels like a close-knit community and the journalism program has introduced me to some of my closest friends and best mentors.

What has been your best experience in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication?
Getting to interview Sean Lowe from The Bachelor for one of my stories when he came to visit campus.

What has been your favorite journalism class you’ve taken?
Reporting because I loved having Jean Marie Brown as a professor and I feel like it was the best way to make sure I knew I loved journalism.

Who is your favorite professor in the Journalism department?
Jean Marie Brown because she is so much more than a professor. She’s always there to give life advice and never hesitates to help her students with whatever they need.

What is one thing you wish people knew about journalism?
I would say a problem in journalism is that when you tell people what you’re studying at school they like to remind you it’s a dying industry.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever written?
It was interesting getting to write the story about a lawsuit against TCU because I was able to learn more about writing and how to write those kinds of stories.
