CLASS OF 2021: All About Ariana

Name: Ariana Williams
Major: Journalism
Hometown: Kansas City, Kansas

Why did you choose to major in journalism?
I chose journalism because I have always loved writing and wanted to bring a diverse perspective to journalism being that I am a biracial female.

What organizations are you involved with on campus?
I am involved in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the National Residence Hall Honorary, Carter Ambassadors, Sports Broadcasting and am also a resident assistant. This involvement has allowed me to have several different experiences on campus, and use skills including speaking to people and thinking on my feet.

What has been your favorite class?
Diversity in the Media was my favorite class because it covered content from different backgrounds and perspectives.

What would your advice be for incoming students?
Try everything and if it’s not for you, don’t be afraid to quit. Never overexert yourself for people who would not be willing to do the same.

What is one thing from home you had to bring with you to college?
I brought my pictures because I love having a piece of home with me and seeing all the people I love in one place. It feels like they are there watching over me and reminds me of great memories.

What is your favorite study spot?
My room is my favorite study spot because it’s where I’m the most relaxed, comfortable and feel I can have creative freedom. I can also talk aloud to myself without people thinking that I’m weird.

If your life was a movie, who would be cast as the lead?
I would cast myself because I have always secretly wanted to be a movie star, and it’s my life so who knows me better than me!
