Schieffer Journalism Summer Camp Application Open

Students learn to shoot video at the Schieffer College Journalism Summer Camp.

The application to apply for the 2019 Schieffer College Journalism Summer Camp is now open.

During the two week residential camp hosted on the TCU campus, Schieffer College faculty and students work with high school students on the fundamentals of digital reporting.

Program participants develop their critical thinking and writing skills while generating story ideas, which they use to report and develop into news stories. They find sources on campus, such as at peer camps taking place at TCU or university departments such as the Office of Admission or the Mary Couts Burnett Library. They produce content for a newscast and write for a website.

Media professionals from Fort Worth and Dallas drop in to volunteer their time and share their expertise and experience with students. They talk about changes in media and discuss media careers with students.

While in Fort Worth, students get to experience cultural attractions such as the Trinity Shakespeare Festival and the museum district. They also visit professional newsrooms. The camp runs from June 9 to 22.

Applications must be received by April 30, 2019.
