TCU journalism students received some on-air recognition from FOX 4’s The Ten after the show’s hosts visited the Bob Schieffer College of Communication and spent time with students preparing for careers in news and media.
The Ten, FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth’s live daytime talk and lifestyle program, visited an Advanced News Production class led by Patty Zamarripa, journalism assistant professor of professional practice. The visit brought the hosts together with students involved in TCU News Now, including The Leap and Unscripted, two student-run programs that give aspiring journalists hands-on experience producing original content.
When the hosts later reflected on the visit during The Ten, it was the students’ engagement stood out.
After Zamarripa opened the conversation for questions, the hosts said they were impressed by how seriously students were thinking about the profession and their place within it.
“The questions were just so thoughtful and they really did care about the future of this industry and what that might look like and how it may affect them,” one host said, noting that students were already tailoring their studies toward specific areas of journalism. “I just thought that was really inspiring.”
The hosts also encouraged students to begin building their careers now, pointing to the accessibility of professional-quality production tools and the importance of continually practicing their craft.
