Why are you a Communication Studies major?

Name: Kat Miro
Hometown: San Diego, California
Major: Communication Studies

Kat Miro is a second-year communication studies major from San Diego, California. She chose Texas Christian University because she was captivated by the spirit on campus. She said she could tell the culture and community at TCU was going to help mold her into the student, person and leader she strived to be.

Miro chose to be a communication studies major because, “I love English and communicating and found that communication studies highlights my strengths.”

She is also intrigued by how different cultures connect and wanted to understand what influences play a factor in how people communicate. She made one of her best friends in her Interpersonal Communication class and enjoys making friends in all her other small classes.

“I have enjoyed getting to know the students in my classes because we are usually like-minded and goal-oriented people,” Miro said.

Aside from Miro’s studies, she is also a part of Chi Omega sorority and is the chapter’s resident assistant for 24 Panhellenic residents. One piece of advice Miro wanted to give to incoming students is to get involved.

“Take advantage of all the opportunities TCU has to offer such as professor’s office hours, the Health Center, Campus Life, job opportunities, clubs, intramural sports, weekend trips — the list goes on and on,” Miro said. “Don’t be afraid to ask for help, there are people on campus who care about each student… oh, and don’t spend all your Frog Bucks in the first two weeks!”
