Meet Carson Rahrig, Class of 2015

Major: Communication Studies
Hometown: Plano, Texas
Occupation: Communication and Organization Coordinator at Fogo de Chao

Carson Rahrig ‘15 graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in communication studies. Since she was from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Rahrig was first opposed to attending a local school like TCU that was until she stepped on campus. She loved the energy on campus and all that the university had to offer and decided this was going to be the college of her choice.

Rahrig started TCU as a political science major until taking her first communication class as an elective. “I instantly fell in love with communication studies. I discussed class options and opportunities with various professors and switched that same day,” she said. “It was the best decision of my life.In fact, one of her favorite memories from TCU was the communication studies study abroad program where she went to Russia.

Rahrig works as a communication and organization services coordinator at Fogo de Chao. She never planned on a career in the restaurant business, but her love for food influenced her decision to take the job. She goes on to explain how much she has enjoyed learning the ins and outs that go into operating a restaurant.

“My job has been amazing. TCU definitely helped me improve my writing skills and prepared me for this position. Public speaking is something I have to do every day in my career and my communication studies degree helped me with this exponentially,” she said. Changing my major to communication studies was the biggest turning point in my life. If I wouldn’t have changed it, I would be doing something completely different with my life.

Rahrig’s advice to TCU students is to enjoy your time at TCU, don’t put too much pressure on yourself and it all will work out.
