Class of 2021: Meet Bella Depolo

Name: Bella Depolo
Major: Communication Studies
Minor: Creative Writing
Hometown: Danville, California

What class from the Bob Schieffer College of Communication has had the most impact on you?
As a senior, I have taken many communication classes. I cannot choose just one class. I would have to say that the classes that have had the most impact on me would be Interpersonal Communication and Conflict Management.

What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to work in the admissions office at a college. I love reading, writing and talking to others, so I think that I would love this job. Getting to read potential new student applications and meeting them in person would be fun and very rewarding to know that I was able to make someone’s dream come true by admitting them into their favorite college.

What are you passionate about?
Helping others. I enjoy being around different types of people and getting to know new people because there is always some type of information that you can learn from them. Learning about who that person is and what makes them who they are is something that I find very fascinating. I like to help others because I find it very rewarding. I feel as if I am a very understanding person and a good listener.

What is your favorite Texas Christian University memory?
My favorite TCU memory is Bid Day when I got into my dream sorority. I got to meet so many new girls and I found my forever best friends! I know that it is cliché to say that joining a sorority changed my life, but it is true. I have met and made so many memories with different people from all over. I don’t think that would have happened if I didn’t join a sorority. I also have spent the past few years with the same girls that I became best friends with the first couple of weeks in the sorority and they have changed my life in a positive way.

Where is your favorite off-campus study spot?
Currently my favorite off campus study spot is my bedroom where my desk is. This is only recent and due to COVID-19. If I wasn’t limited to the places that I was able to go and not have to wear a mask, I would say my favorite off campus study spot would be Dwell Coffee and Biscuits or Avoca Coffee Roasters. These are my favorites because I am always motivated by others that are doing work around me, plus I can get good coffee easily.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself as a first-year student at TCU?
I would tell myself to stop worrying about what others think about you. The things that happen to you during your first year in college seem so important at the time, but in reality, they don’t matter, and it will blow over shortly. I think a lot of first-years (including myself) come into college thinking they have to be someone they aren’t to impress others in order to make friends. This is simply not the case, and it is better to stick to who you are and be yourself than lose yourself in the process. So, don’t stress and worry about the things that will have little impact on your future.
