Class of 2015: Life After Graduation with Laura Rohweder

Name: Laura Rohweder
Hometown: Austin, Texas
Major: Communication Studies
Minor: Studio Art

Life has been far from boring for Laura Rohweder ’15 after graduating from Texas Christian University. Known at TCU as Laura Patzke, she later fell in love with and married Jimmy Rohweder, and they are now expecting their first child. While she anticipates her baby’s arrival, Rohweder spends her mornings drinking decaf coffee, loving on her ginger cat named Reba, and preparing for her new teaching career. She always knew having a communication degree would offer versatility for any career pursuit. “My career has taken me from working in finance to working with young children,” she said. “I am now working on a grade level certification.”

Rohweder dove into life as a TCU student. She knew that becoming a part of the TCU family was where she was meant to be. “My mom works at TCU, and I was fortunate enough to see the opportunities that were available to me. I just knew TCU was the right place for me,” she said. With that in mind, I became an active member of a sorority with the sorority bid day becoming one of my favorite memories.

Rohweder’s art talents began to surface at TCU. “Drawing is a passion of mine, and my favorite class was Therapeutic Art with Dr. Amanda Allison. She really helped develop my skill of drawing,” she said.

One of Rohweder’s favorite study spots was Einstein Bros. Bagels. “Living off-campus made it a little more difficult for me to get involved, but the many study sessions at this place helped me get outside of my usual comfort zone. I was able to make many friends,” she said.

Rohweder encourages incoming first-year students to make friends. “Don’t be shy, join a club and put yourself out there.”
