MajorCommunication Studies

Beatriz Gutierrez ’09, is a communication studies alumna from Dolores Hidalgo Guanajuato, Mexico.

After graduating, Gutierrez did a year of service with AmeriCorps where she was able to remain at and work with Texas Christian University. After her year of service with AmeriCorps, she pursued graduate school with TCU’s College of Education. In 2011, her post-graduate life lead her to her current career choice, working in the TCU Office of Admission.

After taking a few communication classes during Gutierrez’s first year of undergraduate studies at TCU, she decided that communication studies was the right path for her. She had originally wanted to be a psychology major, but loved the communication classes that TCU offered. “I had amazing communication professors who constantly showed me through their teaching, that I had made the right choice in choosing communication studies,” she said.

Gutierrez said that communication is vital to any organization. “The skills I learned in Organizational Communication with Dr. Debi Iba and Interpersonal Communication with Dr. Paul Schrodt shaped the implementation of my communication style,” she said.

A favorite TCU memory of Gutierrez was walking to classes at 8 a.m. on November mornings. “The weather was cool and perfect. All felt right in the world,” she said.
