Madison Fowler

What led you to transfer to TCU?

I knew I wanted to be in the Dallas- Fort Worth community, and TCU is known for its networking and connections.

Why did you choose your major?

I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I met with Dr. Schroeder about the Communication Studies Department. She told me communication is the essential base of business and that the major is the study behind that. I knew that it would be something really useful for me.

What are your plans after graduation?

I applied to college as pre-med, changed my major to business, and now I’m in Communication Studies so I would ideally like to do something where I can combine all of those.

What has been your favorite class so far, and why?

I really enjoyed Interpersonal Communication because it teaches you the different types of communication in your life.

Which professor has had the greatest impact on you?

Dr. Paul Witt – He taught me that hard work really does pay off. He was an interactive lecturer and I really learned a lot from his course. He encouraged me to really think critically, and helped me improve my writing

What’s your most memorable learning experience?

My most memorable learning experience was in Group Communication. We had to do a “Shark Tank” pitch for a Community Action Project and I was chosen to be a group leader and got to choose my group. It taught me a lot about group dynamics, but also about doing an actual business pitch. I learned so much from the experience and truly enjoyed it.

Any advice for first year students?

Step out of your comfort zone. Get involved and introduce yourself to people; you can make lifelong friends. Doing things you’re not usually comfortable doing really makes the experience and can boost your confidence.
