Today, she serves as the Senior Director of Marketing at Valet Living, where she brings her experience and enthusiasm to the forefront of her career.

Tell me about yourself. What is your background? What brought you to TCU?

I originally am from Cyprus, which is a suburb of Houston. All of my friends were going to University of Texas and Texas A&M, and I just wanted something different. I came to TCU on a Monday at TCU visit where I fell in love with it and never looked back. I have bled purple since 2001 and really love everything about the school: the programs, the professors who I can even still to this day go back and connect with.

It’s just a great place and everything that I have learned at TCU—whether in the classroom or within the leadership activities I was involved in—still impacts me today.

What did your career path look like after graduation?

Initially, I wanted to pursue law, but during a TCU career fair, I connected with someone from an accounting firm who needed a marketing intern. I took the opportunity and became their intern for the summer, which led to a part-time position during my senior year and ultimately launched my marketing career.

I was lucky to have a mentor who taught me about branding, allowing me to integrate my communication studies into my work. I’ve since worked for two accounting firms, transitioned into healthcare marketing and held roles in companies like Lennox and Hilti. After some time in private equity marketing, I returned to an accounting firm to manage messaging and campaigns. Now, I lead marketing for an amenity service company with about 8,000 employees.

What at TCU made you feel the most prepared for your career?

I would say the classes I took in communication studies were incredibly impactful.

Communication truly forms the foundation of everything we do in life and business. Being able to articulate your thoughts clearly and strategically present your ideas is a significant advantage in any field.

I’ve worked with many people who lack that foundational skill, making it challenging for them to share their ideas or engage confidently in discussions. The courses I took—like “Listening,” which I hope they still offer—have been invaluable. Every aspect of my communication education has contributed to my success. It’s like a secret weapon that can propel you forward, even in fields like medicine where effective communication is crucial. I’m a strong advocate for TCU’s Strategic communication and communication studies programs because they truly equip students for a variety of career paths.”

Did you know what you wanted to do when you came to TCU? How did you decide?

Not at all! I knew I wanted a career involving people, but I wasn’t certain if law was the right path for me. I eventually pursued a law degree, which has helped inform my marketing work, but I didn’t end up practicing law.

To answer your question, I realized my passion for communications while exploring my options at TCU. As I delved into the coursework, I discovered new opportunities and identified where my skills fit within the job market. This approach has been invaluable, as I couldn’t have predicted my career trajectory. Each experience has served as a stepping stone, leading me to where I am today. I believe keeping an open mind and focusing on what you enjoy and excel at is the best way to navigate your career path.”

What’s one piece of advice you have for current students?

“I recommend using LinkedIn to explore job descriptions in fields like marketing or communications. Focus on the responsibilities rather than the titles, and even if you don’t meet all the qualifications, if something interests you, take note. This can help you identify what you love or want to avoid. Every role teaches you something valuable, so stay curious about the opportunities available!”

As an alumnus, has TCU helped you in your career after you left?

“Absolutely! TCU maintains strong connections with its alumni, but it’s also important for us to engage actively. My husband and I, both TCU graduates, stay involved by attending events and supporting initiatives for current students. We believe in giving back because we benefited greatly during our time there.

Staying connected has opened doors for us, whether through job opportunities or networking. Building relationships with fellow alumni and students is crucial, and it’s a mutual investment that enriches our careers and the TCU community. It does require effort, but the rewards are significant!”
