Business of Entertainment Media Major

The Department of Film, Television and Digital Media (FTDM) offers students a uniquely diverse and comprehensive array of courses designed to prepare its graduates to be industry leaders, creative contributors and/or impactful scholars in arguably the most pervasive and influential field of the 21st century.

The new major in Business of Entertainment Media provides essential real-world applications and skills as it prepares students for successful careers as leaders and managers in influential entertainment-focused organizations, in a variety of positions including brand managers, creative consultants, marketing strategists, producers, production managers, social media coordinators and many others.

Its emphases on both business and content-related industry aspects enable graduates to emerge with substantial knowledge of media business practices and terminology, development and production processes, marketing fundamentals and legal essentials, as well a range of additional educational insights necessary for personal and professional success in this exciting and rapidly changing field.

Requirements

Students wishing to major in business of entertainment media  must complete the following requirements for graduation:

  • A minimum of 120 semester hours overall, including at least 42 hours earned at the 30000 level or above
  • TCU Core Curriculum requirements
  • A minimum of 31 semester hours in the FTDM major courses, including at least 12 hours at the 30000 level or above
  • A minor of at least 18 hours; all requirements of the minor department must be followed
  • A grade of “C” or better in all courses taken in the FTDM department

Course order

It is strongly recommended that business and entertainment media majors complete their course requirements in this order:

    1. Departmental core requirements (12 hours)
    2. Media production/content course (3 hours. Choose 1 from the following list)
    3. Entertainment industry courses (12 hours. Choose 4 from the following list)
    4. Law Course (3 hours. Complete 1 from the following list)
    5. Additional requirement (1 hour)
