The Class of 2019: Riahnna Whitley

Majors: Film, Television and Digital Media; Strategic Communication
Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas

Why did you decide to major in film, television and digital media?
I love watching movies and TV so I thought the classes would be interesting. I originally planned to only minor in film, television and digital media since my other major was strategic communication. I didn’t want to offset my graduation date by becoming a double-major. However, after I took my first film class, I knew I had to declare it as my major because I liked it too much. Additionally, the minor is very different because you’re limited to what classes you’re allowed to take.

What is a common misconception about the major?
A lot of people think all you do is watch movies, which isn’t the case at all. The major is structured into three sections: industry, critical analysis and production. After you’ve taken the required courses for each section, you’re free to take the courses you prefer.

What makes TCU stand out from every other university?
I think what everyone loves about TCU is the fact that it is a small school with a big-school feel. We excel in everything we do: academics, sports, etc.

What is your favorite thing to do in Fort Worth?
EAT!!!! Mexican food is my favorite.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like going to the movies, reading, watching television and traveling.

What is one fact people don’t know about you?
My lucky number is 7. I have 7 letters in my first, middle and last names. (7-7-7)

What do you plan to do with your degree?
I want to do something that combines my two degrees. I would love to work in the entertainment industry.
