Journalism and Sports Broadcasting grad Sam Fristachi ’21 works as Football Communication Assistant with the Washington Commanders serving as liaison between the players and the media. Here’s a day in her life.

Fristachi puts her degree to good use by handling all internal and external credentials requests for the team and visiting team credential requests on gamedays. Some of these include contributing to weekly press releases, the media guide, press box notes and other publications all while facilitating player interviews with local and national media.

Her favorite memory with the team is “when we [the Commanders] were playing in Philadelphia in 2022. The Eagles were undefeated and we were considered underdogs. The team gave Philadelphia their first loss of the season, and the locker room after the game was so fun to be a part of.”

She credits much of what she learned at Schieffer College with where she is now.

“All the professors went out of their way to get to know me better outside of being a student,” explains Fristachi. “Dr. Kimberly Owczarski, Chuck LaMendola and Mike Martin made their classes enjoyable and exciting for students to attend. Each of them set me up for success in the industry, and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for them,” Fristachi said about her time in Film, Television and Digital Media.
