This summer’s FTDM in London Program concluded officially with a farewell meal gathering on Thursday, June 25 (see photo, below). Over the course of the preceding four weeks, the program’s student participants took part in two FTDM courses being offered on location in London, England: Film in a Global Society (co-taught by Professors Kylo-Patrick Hart and Joel Timmer) and Popular Music and the Recording Industry: The Beatles (taught by Professor Andy Haskett). Their related cultural experiences included a Sherlock Holmes walking tour in relation to a first-run screening of the feature film Mr. Holmes, a visit to Abbey Road and the Beatles-centered theatrical experience Let It Be, a briefing at the British Board of Film Classification, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London: The Making of Harry Potter, and a three-day trip to Edinburgh, Scotland (the backdrop of the film Trainspotting, which the students viewed and analyzed as part of their academic coursework). With most student and faculty participants now having returned to the States, the FTDM department has turned its attention to planning next summer’s study abroad experience, which will occur in Rome, Italy.
