Originally from Nashua, New Hampshire,\u00a0<\/span>Katie Negron is a strategic communication major\u00a0<\/span>an<\/span>d a<\/span>\u00a0minor in both Spanish and criminal justice at\u00a0<\/span>Texas Christian University<\/span>. Alongside her academic affiliation with the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, Negron is a member of Greek life and the TCU Athletics marketing department.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Negron\u00a0<\/span>said she\u00a0<\/span>came to TCU because<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI<\/span>\u00a0wanted to try something different than the\u00a0<\/span>E<\/span>ast\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>oast.\u201d Her father and cousins also attended TCU, so she said she always knew about the school. She decided to pack her bags in 2017 and try it out<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Negron chose strategic communication as her major because<\/span>\u00a0i<\/span>t sounded open-ended.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>She thought she could use her degree to do whatever she wanted and liked how it is one of the more selective programs at TCU<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>When she\u2019s not in class, you can find her in a study room in Moudy South. \u201cThe study rooms are my favorite place to study and work on projects with my peers,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she<\/span>\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a strategic communication major, Negron has become a member of the\u00a0<\/span>Public Relations Student Society of America\u00a0<\/span>(PRSSA)\u00a0<\/span>and Ad Associat<\/span>ion.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cMy<\/span>\u00a0favorite class has been Dr. Joshua Bentley\u2019s Law class<\/span>\u00a0because the class was wicked interesting<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>Negron\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0most memorable experiences at TCU\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span>\u00a0studying abroad with the\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>trategic\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>ommunication department in 2019. She\u00a0<\/span>went<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>Edinburgh, Scotland, and London, England. \u201cIt was the best month<\/span>. I was able<\/span>\u00a0to learn about communication and marketing tactics in countries besides the United States,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she<\/span>\u00a0said. \u201cI got to know a ton of amazing people and I\u2019m very thankful for the month I spent abroad.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For Negron, every professor she has had in strategic communication has had a positive impact on her. The faculty and staff have improved her communication abilities and have given her tools to be successful in the real world. Her favorite professor has been Dr. Karen Lindsey. \u201cI loved her\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>trategic\u00a0<\/span>W<\/span>riting class and she is one of the sweetest, most encouraging teachers I\u2019ve\u00a0<\/span>ever had,\u201d Negron said.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>The faculty and staff of the\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>trategic\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>ommunication department have<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>great people with stories and lessons to learn from<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a TCU Athletics student marketing\u00a0<\/span>intern<\/span>, Negron hopes to\u00a0<\/span>gain enough experience to\u00a0<\/span>one day\u00a0<\/span>work\u00a0<\/span>either for a sports team or an organization in their marketing and communication department. She has also considered going to law school and applying her <\/span>law degree towards her passion in the field of athletics.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Negron encourages anyone who is thinking about\u00a0<\/span>majoring in<\/span>\u00a0strategic communication to go for it. \u201c<\/span>It\u2019s such an interesting program with extra things to offer like study abroad, ROXO<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>the student-run ad agency<\/span>)<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0PRSSA etc.,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she<\/span>\u00a0said. \u201cAlso<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>every professor has so much knowledge and advice to share because of their\u00a0<\/span>real-world<\/span>\u00a0experience. The classes are engaging and allow you to apply\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>concepts and ideas you\u2019re taught.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
