A native C<\/span>oloradan with an urge to explore, Charlotte Sutherland knew she wanted <\/span>to attend a college outside of her home state. While exploring her options for schools that were out of state, Sutherland was drawn to the South<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0After visiting and considering\u00a0<\/span>University of Georgia, University of Texas, Clemson<\/span>\u00a0and Vanderbilt,<\/span> she found her home at Texas Christian University.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While each university considered\u00a0<\/span>was<\/span>\u00a0prestigious and\u00a0<\/span>held<\/span>\u00a0endl<\/span>ess opportunities, it\u00a0<\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0take Sutherland<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>long to decide on TCU. When asked about what influenced her decision and made TCU so special she said,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Immediately when I stepped out of the car on campus I felt at home<\/span>\u00a0T<\/span>here<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s a sense of community on this ca<\/span>mpus and I could feel\u00a0<\/span>it right away.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0considered this to be a crucial factor in\u00a0<\/span>my<\/span>\u00a0decision considering\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0would be over 700 miles from\u00a0<\/span>home.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When arriving on campus Sutherland was undecided about what she would like to major in. After ha<\/span>ving a meeting with her academic advisor she learned more about the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, and more specifically the Strategic Communication department. She was drawn to strategic communication because of how it combined different aspects\u00a0<\/span>of business and communication, as well as the variety of skill sets learned within the major.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Within the major, Sutherland<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>took<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Diversity, Public Relations, Design, Research, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Advertising.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Strategic communication offers a wide array of classes that have enabled me to gain skills for many different jobs. It has made me confident that with a degree in strategic communication,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I will be fully prepared to enter t<\/span>he workforce and be a competitive applicant<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sutherland is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>working at Alliance Consumer Group while finishing her\u00a0<\/span>senior year<\/span>. Working as a digital marketing intern<\/span>,<\/span> she has been able to utilize the skills that she<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>learn<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on a daily basis.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>I create and manage content for\u00a0<\/span>the brand\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0various<\/span>\u00a0social media platforms, as well as manag<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0customer relations on its platforms.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sutherland credits TCU for how confident and ready she is to enter the real world after graduating. Sh<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is not\u00a0<\/span>ready to say goodbye to her home away<\/span>\u00a0from home, but is well prepared for what comes after.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>I can<\/span>\u2019<\/span>t believe my time at TCU is coming to an end, but I<\/span>\u2019<\/span>m so thankful for the time I<\/span>\u00a0have<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>spent here and all the things that I have<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>learned in the classroom and in life in general.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
