Stacie Shidler \u201909 graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor of science degree in <\/span>strategic communication<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Shidler\u00a0<\/span>always had an interest in graphic design and knew she wanted to pursue a career in marketing. She chose\u00a0<\/span>this major because it covered all areas of advertising.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>T<\/span>he classes\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span> took supported <\/span>my<\/span>\u00a0specific career path, marketing research and public relations tactics<\/span>,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span>It was essential to\u00a0<\/span>me<\/span>\u00a0to have a broad understanding of advertising as a whole rather than just a design aspect.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked what opportunities TCU provided her to help transition into her career, <\/span>Shidler said<\/span>\u00a0how classes\u00a0<\/span>gave her confidence\u00a0<\/span>when\u00a0<\/span>speaking<\/span>\u00a0in public. She\u00a0<\/span>not only\u00a0<\/span>felt encouraged to participate in group projects and\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>present design and advertising concepts<\/span>\u00a0but also\u00a0<\/span>received valuable coaching from professors and feedback that <\/span>she continues to use.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During her time at TCU,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Shidler\u00a0<\/span>worked at Real World IMC,\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>\u00a0student-run<\/span>\u00a0advertising agency\u00a0<\/span>where she would meet with clients to gain an understanding of their needs, brainstorm\u00a0<\/span>ideas<\/span>\u00a0and then create advertisements<\/span>, print material and\u00a0<\/span>campaign<\/span>s<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>She\u00a0<\/span>also worked as a designer for TCU Skiff<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>the student newspaper<\/span>. This experience gave her a competitive advantage when she began her job search. After graduating,\u00a0<\/span>she\u00a0<\/span>began\u00a0<\/span>working as a marketing coordinator at <\/span>Monitronics<\/span>\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0Farmers Branch<\/span>, Texas<\/span>. From 2010 to 2017, <\/span>she worked her way from\u00a0<\/span>brand specialist<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to multimedia designer to senior multimedia designer, and <\/span>finally, <\/span>creative manager. In 2018,\u00a0<\/span>she\u00a0<\/span>decided to expand her knowledge of branding and work with new clients<\/span>\u00a0by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>becoming a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>f<\/span>reelanc<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>designer.\u00a0<\/span>Her new\u00a0<\/span>career\u00a0<\/span>gave<\/span>\u00a0her\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>opportunity to work with Teddi Mellencamp from the\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>She created the\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>ALL IN<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0company logo that Mellencamp used to promote her\u00a0<\/span>A<\/span>ccountability\u00a0<\/span>C<\/span>oaching program.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shidler\u00a0<\/span>lives<\/span>\u00a0in Ohio, pursuing her passion for print and digital design with Laird Connectivity as a\u00a0<\/span>s<\/span>enior\u00a0<\/span>d<\/span>esigner.\u00a0<\/span>In<\/span>\u00a0this position, she oversees the company brand and designs all aspects of advertising campaigns.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shidler highly recommends <\/span>students\u00a0<\/span>participat<\/span>e<\/span>\u00a0in internship<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0and try classes outside of<\/span>\u00a0their major interest<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Take advantage of internships and job opportunities. The real-world experiences will help you become better skilled in your field of study<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>she<\/span>\u00a0said<\/span>. \u201cO<\/span>nce you have the experience, you\u2019ll be much more prepared when you start to look for professional job opportunities. Companies will see value in an entry-level candidate that has quality experience on their resume v<\/span>ersus<\/span>\u00a0a candidate that does not.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Most importantly, Shidler advises students to enjoy their time at TCU while you can.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>It\u2019s the perfect time to absorb as much information as\u00a0<\/span>possible\u00a0<\/span>and make lasting friendships and memories.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
