During her years at Texas Christian University,\u00a0<\/span>Claire Ruskin<\/span>\u00a0\u201920<\/span>\u00a0served as a public relations manager for\u00a0<\/span>Roxo, the<\/span>\u00a0student-run advertising agency in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, was actively involved in her sorority, worked with Circle of Sisterhood, and NEXT<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>first<\/span>–<\/span>year<\/span>\u00a0leadership program<\/span>)<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Ruskin graduated<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>magna cum laude<\/span>\u00a0with honors<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Graduating during C<\/span>OVID<\/span>-19 was hard on many students. Ruskin <\/span>explains<\/span> how tough it was to find a <\/span>full-time\u00a0<\/span>job during a pandemic. \u201cHonestly, it\u2019s been very tough. While I have a lot of skills and experience, there are not as many positions open that are suited for entry-level candidates like me,” she said. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ruskin\u2019s favorite class was Case Studies. \u201cI loved reading about what other companies had done well and not-so-well and identifying where they went right or wrong<\/span>,\u201d she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>It made me look at the world differently, and when a brand or company is communicating, I can use my knowledge from Case Studies to understand if it will work well<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ruskin has always had a passion for public relations and social media. Originally<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>she<\/span>\u00a0planned on majoring in marketing until she found strategic communication. \u201cI quickly realized I needed more freedom and creativity \u2013 which I knew strategic communication would allow<\/span>,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span>I followed my gut, and during my first semester in strategic communication, I knew it was where I was supposed to be.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ruskin believes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the Schieffer College prepared <\/span>her<\/span>\u00a0for life after college by giving\u00a0<\/span>her<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>number<\/span>\u00a0of skills that boost<\/span>ed her\u00a0<\/span>resume and would be useful in all kinds of communication careers. These skills provided a great starting point<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and enough variety to\u00a0<\/span>choose what communication<\/span>\u00a0pathway\u00a0<\/span>to take.\u00a0<\/span>She<\/span>\u00a0uses all of\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0resources and networking skills she learned at TCU to pursue different job opportunities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Ruskin\u2019s free time, she is often found writing pieces for her blog,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>clairealison.com<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cDuring\u00a0<\/span>COVID<\/span>-19, it has allowed me to pour into my passion for blogging and interacting with my followers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>She<\/span> is eagerly awaiting the time it’s safe to travel again to return to Texas, visit friends and the university she fell in love with.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
