Some may know her as the current marketing and communication coordinator for the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, or some may know her as a fellow Horned Frog from the classes of 2006 and 2015. <\/span>By either role,\u00a0<\/span>Samantha Griffith i<\/span>s a proud Texas Christian University\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>lumna who was led back to her roots to work for her alma mater.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an undergraduate broadcast journalism major, Griffith pursued a career in television news after college working as a production assistant at NBC 5<\/span>. She moved\u00a0<\/span>to Sioux City, Iowa, to\u00a0<\/span>report for KMEG 14, the local CBS station. After her time at the station, she said she <\/span>worked as a social media editor for the Sioux City Journal before moving back to Fort Worth.<\/span>\u00a0Although she enjoyed the fast-paced new<\/span>s industry, she was ready to find a more stable opportunity where she could further develop her communication skills.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon returning to TCU, her first job was in the Office of Donor Relations as the scholarship coordinator.<\/span>\u00a0She<\/span>\u00a0learned a<\/span>bout the importance of philanthropy and how a development office works. \u201cAfter serving in that role for seven years, I was given the opportunity to move to the position I\u2019m in now<\/span>,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span>It\u2019s such an honor to work for the same college where I was once a student<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about an average day on the job, Griffith said, \u201cOne of my responsibilities is managing the Schieffer College\u2019s social media channels, so I\u2019m always looking for mentions to share or great stories about students, faculty and alumni t<\/span>o promote on our feeds as well as on our college website. Although I work for TCU\u2019s Marketing and Communication (MKC) division, I\u2019m embedded in the college, so I usually have a few college or MKC meetings to attend each day to set goals or develop marketin<\/span>g and communication strategies.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Griffith said courses<\/span>\u00a0like\u00a0<\/span>Media Writing<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>E<\/span>diting were an enormous help.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>They taught me the importance of proofing my writing, the AP Style<\/span>book and how factual mistakes can damage a reporter\u2019s credibility. The Newscast class w<\/span>as also hugely helpful at giving me a taste of working on deadlines and reporting a story on camera<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Griffith said it was<\/span>\u00a0hard to\u00a0<\/span>pick\u00a0<\/span>just\u00a0<\/span>one favorite TCU memory<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>O<\/span>ne of the coolest memories I had as an aspiring journalist was attendi<\/span>ng the first Schieffer Symposium in 2005 during the spring semester of my junior year<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The event happened in\u00a0<\/span>Moudy<\/span>\u00a0South,\u00a0<\/span>and I remember<\/span> the excitement in the building leading up to the evening while wearing <\/span>my<\/span>\u00a0newly purchased purple blazer<\/span>,\u201d she said. \u201cI<\/span>n additi<\/span>on to seeing Bob Schieffer in person, I remember walking right by Tom Brokaw in the\u00a0<\/span>Moudy<\/span>\u00a0atrium. It was such a surreal few days to be a journalism student!\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
