Makenna Wallace <\/span>chose Texas Christian University due to its big school feel, <\/span>yet <\/span>small school atmosphere. <\/span>She <\/span>immediately fell in love with TCU\u2019s community, and also found the Texas mindset incredibly alluring. <\/span>Wallace<\/span> was also aware that TCU had a large number of options in regard to major<\/span>s<\/span>, and since <\/span>she<\/span> was originally planning to begin college <\/span>without a major in mind<\/span>,<\/span> that was a reassuring factor in <\/span>the<\/span> decision. <\/span>She <\/span>was also completely charmed by the <\/span>city<\/span> of Fort Worth<\/span>.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I had never experienced anything quite comparable so I felt as if I should relocate myself somewhere different for my college years<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/span> she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202fWhen deciding on <\/span>her<\/span> major<\/span>,<\/span> Wallace<\/span> was looking for something that was broader; a major that would teach a variety of skills that would aid in future endeavors. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Journalism<\/span> allowed <\/span>me<\/span> to develop skills that <\/span>I<\/span> will use endlessly in whatever career path I choose to take<\/span>,\u201d she said.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I also found the investigative aspects of <\/span>j<\/span>ournalism very captivating, as well as the immense history that is behind the profession itself.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wallace<\/span>\u2019s<\/span> favorite <\/span>j<\/span>ournalism class <\/span>was<\/span> The Historical Development of Mass Media with <\/span>Dr. John<\/span> Tisdale. One thing <\/span>she<\/span> loved about this class was learning the history of <\/span>j<\/span>ournalism through novels rather than a textbook. <\/span>\u201cI <\/span>loved <\/span>Dr.<\/span> Tisdale and the lighthearted mood he created within the classroom<\/span>,\u201d she said. \u201c<\/span>All students were free to join in on lectures, and <\/span>Dr.<\/span> Tisdale continually kept you attentive with his delightful attitude.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

O<\/span>rganiz<\/span>ation<\/span> is Wallace\u2019s best quality<\/span>. <\/span>She <\/span>take<\/span>s<\/span> great satisfaction in getting things done, especially when the final goal is of great significance. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>I love taking charge and allowing others to de<\/span>–<\/span>stress since I have great confidence in my abilities to complete tasks<\/span>,\u201d she said.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I believe my peers would agree with me since this quality of mine is something that I have been able to use within the classroom repeatedly<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>Wallace\u2019s<\/span> favorite thing to do <\/span>is<\/span> to <\/span>spend time with family. S<\/span>he<\/span> share<\/span>s<\/span> a four-year age difference with <\/span>her<\/span> siblings<\/span> and loves<\/span> catching up with both of them.<\/span> She<\/span> also love<\/span>s<\/span> spending time with <\/span>her<\/span> parents, especially during the holidays when <\/span>the<\/span> whole family is able to reunite. <\/span>Wallace<\/span> attended boarding school, <\/span>so<\/span> she <\/span>ha<\/span>s<\/span> not been able to spend much time with <\/span>her<\/span> family<\/span> and <\/span>whenever <\/span>she<\/span> get<\/span>s<\/span> the chance, <\/span>she<\/span> take<\/span>s<\/span> it.<\/span><\/p>\n

The<\/span> most valuable internship experience<\/span> Wallace<\/span> had<\/span> was the <\/span>d<\/span>esign and <\/span>m<\/span>arketing <\/span>i<\/span>nternship<\/span> for<\/span> Trinity Works. Trinity Works is a Fort Worth<\/span>–<\/span>based real estate development company and somewhere <\/span>she<\/span> never thought <\/span>she <\/span>would work. Real <\/span>e<\/span>state was an industry <\/span>Wallace<\/span> had never been involved in beforehand, so <\/span>she <\/span>was rather intimidated when <\/span>she<\/span> first started. However, this <\/span>opportunity<\/span> taught <\/span>her<\/span> how to learn on the go and gave a preview of what a true 9<\/span>–<\/span>to<\/span>–<\/span>5 job would resemble.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In five years, <\/span>Wallace<\/span> see<\/span>s<\/span> her<\/span>self continuing to work <\/span>her<\/span> way up within the marketing or digital media business worlds. If not<\/span>,<\/span> she <\/span>can also <\/span>picture<\/span> herself<\/span> being occupied by an event planning position or something else <\/span>that is a little more independent. As of now <\/span>she <\/span>ha<\/span>s<\/span> no direct <\/span>or<\/span> clear path<\/span>, <\/span>but<\/span> she <\/span>do<\/span>es<\/span> feel as <\/span>though<\/span> her<\/span> choice to major in <\/span>j<\/span>ournalism has prepared <\/span>her<\/span> to succeed<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
