I asked <\/span>Emma <\/span>Bedard<\/span> what her favorite movie was and why. Being the <\/span>film, television and digital media (FTDM) major<\/span> she is,<\/span> I expected a <\/span>typical <\/span>response along the lines of \u201cThe Shawshank Redemption,\u201d \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d\u00a0<\/span>or even \u201cGone with the Wind,\u201d if she appreciated the classics. Her response landed somewhere <\/span>further <\/span>outside the lines of the expected film-major-go-to-blockbuster-drama <\/span>than <\/span>I anticipated. <\/span>Bedard<\/span> doesn\u2019t have a favorite movie. For <\/span>her, <\/span>having a favorite movie is too clich\u00e9. <\/span>Her<\/span> appreciation<\/span> for film exceeds the acting and drama displayed on screen. It runs deeper, behind the scenes and in the production.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In high school, <\/span>Bedard<\/span> had to take a few production classes before she saw sports post-production as a career rather than just a hobby.<\/span> Back home<\/span>, <\/span>she<\/span> would <\/span>seldom leave<\/span> the house without a camera in hand. \u201cWhenever my family and I would go on vacation, I would always bring my camera along with me,\u201d<\/span> she said<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bedard<\/span> was unsure how she would fit in at T<\/span>exas Christian University<\/span> due to the film, television and digital media major primarily being composed of male students and her wanting to enter <\/span>the<\/span> sports filmmaking and editing<\/span> industry. <\/span>However, in her tenacious character, <\/span>she <\/span>was not going to let that stop her from <\/span>pursuing her calling <\/span>and making her mark.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bedard<\/span> was led to TCU when she realized that the FTDM major <\/span>was<\/span>n\u2019t one-dimensional. <\/span>She <\/span>found<\/span> that<\/span> go<\/span>ing<\/span> into the industry of sports filmmaking and editing<\/span> could be a reality at TCU<\/span> and she brought<\/span> a quality of uniqueness to the table, echoing what the Bob Schieffer College of Communication and <\/span>d<\/span>epartment of FTDM stand for.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When <\/span>Bedard<\/span> isn\u2019t in the classroom, you will most likely find her editing and producing video for TCU <\/span>A<\/span>thletics <\/span>or<\/span> creating graphics for the scoreboards in the <\/span>campus<\/span> stadiums<\/span> and arenas<\/span>. This allows <\/span>her<\/span> to d<\/span>evelop practical, hands-on experience that she can take anywhere after graduation. <\/span>She<\/span> is more than a passionate FTDM major and sports fan<\/span>, however<\/span>.<\/span> B<\/span>eing the adventurous person she is, <\/span>she <\/span>loves to try new thing<\/span>s \u2013 <\/span>especially activities that involve<\/span>s<\/span> the outdoors. <\/span>Her <\/span>involvement on the <\/span>U<\/span>ltimate <\/span>F<\/span>risbee <\/span>C<\/span>lub<\/span> helps her to stay active while meeting new people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bedard<\/span> says \u201cwithout creativity, life would be boring.\u201d TCU\u2019s broad curriculum has allowed <\/span>her<\/span> to be creative in ways some may consider outside the paradigm of an FTDM major. <\/span>Her <\/span>experiences<\/span> show that b<\/span>eing creative isn\u2019t just about performing on screen<\/span>.
