Geoffrey Craig \u201914 starts his morning routine by pouring<\/span> himself and his wife a cup of coffee. They know <\/span>they only have a few minutes to enjoy alone before<\/span> their two daughters will <\/span>wake<\/span> up <\/span>starving<\/span>.<\/span> Geoff<\/span> drives his daughters to school<\/span>,<\/span> then<\/span> starts his drive toward Texas Christian University. He not only attended TCU as a student but also continues his career at the KTCU radio station. <\/span>\u201cA day in my life consists of getting up, waking my kids up, eating breakfast, taking them to school, and then me going to school<\/span>,\u201d he said. <\/span>Not much has changed from when <\/span>Craig<\/span> was a student, except<\/span> now he is<\/span> not going to classes in <\/span>Moudy<\/span> but going to work in <\/span>Moudy<\/span> instead<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before his career at the radio station, Craig gained experience in the sports world<\/span>. He said,<\/span> \u201cI had two really fun jobs after graduation<\/span>.<\/span> I worked for the Texas Rangers for two years running camera for their in-house video operations. I got to be on the field before games and walk the pitcher to the mound when they warm up<\/span>,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Craig<\/span> also hosted and produced a podcast for Yahoo <\/span>S<\/span>ports\u2019 TCU recruiting site, Purple Menace. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Working on Purple Menace was great because I got to cover the team<\/span>,\u201d he said.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I grew up rooting for <\/span>TCU <\/span>and was able to interview great coaches such as Raegan <\/span>Pebley<\/span>, Jamie Dixon, Eric Bell, Gary Patterson, and Jill Kramer<\/span>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Craig, a Fort Worth native,<\/span> knew exactly where he wanted to earn his degree from<\/span>.<\/span> \u201cI chose TCU because I\u2019m a Fort Worth lifer, born and raised in Fort Worth, so I\u2019ve always been a TCU fan. My grandfather, great-uncle, and aunt are all TCU alums as well<\/span>,\u201d he said. \u201c<\/span>When I applied to TCU, the <\/span>s<\/span>ports <\/span>b<\/span>roadcasting major had just been created, so it felt like it was destiny,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sports ha<\/span>ve<\/span> always fascinated Craig, so it was<\/span> no <\/span>mystery <\/span>why he chose sports broadcasting for his degree<\/span>.<\/span> \u201cI\u2019ve always had a passion for sports and being able to go to school in my own backyard was a bonus,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While reminiscing on being a student at TCU, a few of his favorite memories came to mind<\/span>.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I<\/span>t\u2019s a tossup between working for ESPN during the college baseball super-regional when TCU advanced to the College World Series in 2014 or covering the 2014 Peach Bowl from the press box for KTCU when TCU destroyed Ole Miss 42-3,\u201d he said. He also mentions <\/span>that FTDM\u2019s Sports Radio<\/span> class kick-started his career <\/span>and <\/span>got the ball rolling on <\/span>his<\/span> involvement in radio, from on-air talent to production<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Being a nontraditional student, Craig faced some challenges that turned into a positive experience for everyone around him<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cMy biggest challenge was finding a balance between school and home life. I had a wife and a daughter when I started at TCU so being able to balance classes, work-study, labs<\/span>, and <\/span>working with time to spend with my girls was difficult at times<\/span>,\u201d he said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

‘It was also beneficial to the other students who saw what I was doing, and it made them realize that what they had going on wasn\u2019t that difficult. I turned a challenge into a positive influence on others,\u201d he said. <\/span>Advice\u00a0<\/span>Craig wishes he could<\/span> have<\/span> give<\/span>n<\/span> himself as a first-year is to relax<\/span>. <\/span>\u201cDon\u2019t freak out about being a decade older than most of your classmates<\/span>,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/span> \u201c<\/span>You will end up building lifelong friendships with many of them<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
