Ethan Miller<\/span> \u201915 graduated from Texas Christian University<\/span> with a <\/span>Bachelor of Arts in communication s<\/span>tudies.<\/span> Since graduating, he worked his way up to his dream job with the Houston Astros. His current title is season t<\/span>i<\/span>ckets account executive. <\/span>His day-to-day responsibilities focus on connecting with individuals and businesses to discuss season tickets and suite involvement. <\/span>He also <\/span>facilitates business development and<\/span> employee outings at the ballpark facilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller\u2019s<\/span> role involves extensive outbound calling and face-to-face meetings at the ballpark and business locations. <\/span>He <\/span>works games, nights, weekends and occasional holidays answering phones, working sales booths and visiting clients<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

G<\/span>rateful for his time at TCU<\/span>, Miller<\/span> relates his current role to many of the <\/span>skills he acquired through the Communication S<\/span>tudies department. From a critical thinking standpoint, <\/span>he<\/span> said communication studies taught him to approach obstacles with an open mindset. \u201cSales requires flexibility and awareness to keep the ball moving forward,\u201d <\/span>he<\/span> said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller<\/span> attributes his ability to achieve the goals of his clients to the listening skills he developed at TCU.<\/span> \u201cI\u2019ve come to understand that solutions to problems are more than just black and<\/span> white,\u201d he said. \u201c<\/span>This understanding has created a successful path for me so far.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller<\/span> said the <\/span>Cultural Communication course <\/span>w<\/span>as the<\/span> most influential class he took at <\/span>TCU. He said that it is often easy to assume an understanding of other cultural groups that may not be rooted in the truth. The concepts <\/span>he learned in that <\/span>class translate to his current role and<\/span> help him <\/span>better serve his clients. He interacts with people f<\/span>rom all walks <\/span>of life and said<\/span>, \u201cThe class was certainly eye-o<\/span>pening to my perspective on those that hold different beliefs from my own.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked if he could return to TCU and do one t<\/span>hing differently, Miller said<\/span>, \u201cMy biggest regret was assuming the transition into a job following graduation would be easy.\u201d After graduation, he worked for a couple of different companies and<\/span> spent a year as a corporate development i<\/span>ntern with the Houston Texans. <\/span>He<\/span> said the time he took to explore different job opportunities led him to his dream job with the Astros. He started<\/span> as a sales c<\/span>onsultant in Janua<\/span>ry 2017 and was promoted to account e<\/span>xecutive in July 2018.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Miller advises students in pursuit of their dream job<\/span> to be vul<\/span>nerable and grow as much as they <\/span>can. <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Make yourself uncomfortabl<\/span>e and learn from your mistakes,\u201d he said. \u201c<\/span>Growth cannot happen without this.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>In five years, Miller hopes to be in a <\/span>managerial position.<\/span> \u201cI want to help others grow as the<\/span>y pursue their career in sports,\u201d he said.<\/span> \u201c<\/span>I enjoy teaching and I could think of no other place in the world to do that.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
