To pursue the Master of Science in Communication Studies, a student must have a bachelor’s degree, including at least 15 hours in communication studies and nine hours in related areas.<\/p>\n

The graduate major consists of 36 credit hours, including two basic plans.<\/p>\n

Plan I<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0non-thesis<\/em>\u00a0plan includes 36 hours of coursework. A student electing this option must successfully complete oral and written comprehensive examinations as specified by the graduate committee.<\/p>\n

Plan II<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0thesis<\/em>\u00a0plan includes 30 hours of coursework and six hours of thesis. A student electing this option must successfully complete the thesis and satisfactorily pass an oral defense of the thesis.<\/p>\n

General Information about Plan I and II<\/strong><\/p>\n

At least 24 hours of a student’s program must be at the 60000 level. With special permission from the graduate coordinator, students may take up to six hours outside the department.<\/p>\n
