Alumna Janella Combs Kamai (’00)

Janella Combs Kamai grew up in small West Texas towns. As the daughter of a pastor and football coach, she often moved from one small town to the next. Despite her humble and rural childhood, which often included summers on a family farm, she was gifted with many opportunities to travel abroad and work in other cultures from her early teen years through graduation from law school.

These travels promoted her desire to work with families and individuals in any capacity that she could. Law school was not the goal and was not even part of the initial plan. Instead, she attended Texas Christian University pursing a degree in public relations before relocating to Indiana to pursue a master’s degree in Public Affairs, with special focus on Non-Profit Management.

Janella has spent her entire legal career helping the people of Alaska, mostly in rural Alaska. She has a broad range of experiences from family and criminal law to civil litigation and estate planning. She also has extensive experience with adoptions and child protection cases.
