Dean’s Message

#Collaborate. #Create. #Communicate.

Dean Kristie Bunton

That’s what we do in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication, and we invite you to join us.

We collaborate to study and practice effective, ethical, creative communication in all its forms – interpersonal, organizational, intercultural, and mass-mediated through advertising, film, journalism and public relations. We create effective messages with words, visual imagery and sounds that may be presented in formats ranging from speeches to debates, Tweets, news stories, blogs, documentaries, public relations campaigns, radio broadcasts and live sports videocasts. We communicate clearly and effectively to individuals, families, organizations and society.

How do we do that?  Classwork in the Schieffer College of Communication prepares students for a variety of communication careers and for graduate study. Our classes are personal and active.  We pride ourselves on the high-quality teaching and engaged learning that occur when faculty and students collaborate.

Our students also learn significant lessons about the ethical practice of communication and the importance of working in teams and on projects outside the classroom.  Our students collaborate on our award-winning student news organizations and publications, our forensics and debate program, our campus radio station, our sports video productions, our strategic communication agency that serves professional clients, and our advertising and public relations campaign contest teams.

Our students learn off campus, too. Because of our location in the thriving Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, students have ample opportunities to complete internships in local television newsrooms, at regional magazines and newspapers, at advertising and public relations agencies, at video production companies, with sports franchises, and at non-profit organizations. We also provide a rich array of off-campus study abroad opportunities.

In the Schieffer College of Communication, we work with the persistence, civility and integrity epitomized by our namesake Bob Schieffer, TCU alumnus and legendary CBS News journalist.  Please join us, and learn how to excel when you #collaborate, #create and #communicate.
